THE DEEP AND RICH LORE SURROUNDING XRP

1. Bearableguy123

Bearableguy123 is a pseudonymous figure who emerged around 2017–2018 as a prominent voice in the XRP community, known for posting cryptic riddles and images on platforms like Reddit and Twitter. Depicted as a cartoon bear, Bearableguy123 gained a significant following due to predictions about XRP’s future, some of which appeared to align with real-world developments, such as Ripple’s partnerships or announcements. Some speculate that Bearableguy123 is a Ripple insider or even David Schwartz himself who is engaging the XRP army with encrypted messages and symbolism. The posts from Bearableguy123 have become embedded within the culture of the XRP Ledger, fueling insightful discussions, new discoveries, and uniting the community around shared optimism and vision.

In 2017, Elon Musk tweeted that his favorite meme featured a bear, but he cannot share it. Some speculate this could be referring to Bearableguy123.

Musk also named a famous video game character of his “Percy_Verence,” a play on the word "perseverance" which is often used in Bearableguy123’s riddles.

Bearableguy123 is often abbreviated as BG123. Some speculate that there is a connection between BG's initials and those of Brad Garlinghouse.

On 1/1/2013 3:21:10 UTC, 136 genesis wallets were created on the XRP Ledger. The series of 1s, 2s, and 3s in the timestamp has been paralleled to Bearbaleguy123's use of those same numbers in his name.

2. 589

The number “589” originated in 2018 from a cryptic prediction by Bearableguy123 that XRP’s price will reach $589. Despite not materializing yet, “589” evolved into a cultural statement within the XRP community, symbolizing shared bullishness and belief in XRP’s potential to become the the world bridge currency and crypto's top coin by market cap.

On 9/17/2012, 80 billion XRP was gifted to the company Ripple. When we condense the date we get 985, 589 in reverse. Ripple now follows 985 people while its CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, follows 589 people. Could this be the true origin of 589?

3. Flip the Switch

The phrase “flip the switch” refers to a pivotal moment when XRP and the XRPL will achieve widespread adoption, overtaking legacy systems and rival cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, coupled with a massive surge in XRP's price. It encapsulates the expectation that XRP will “switch” the global financial system to a decentralized, XRPL-based model, enabling instant, low-cost cross-border payments. It is believed that the company Ripple, its CEO Brad Garlinghouse, or CTO David Schwartz control this "flip of the switch" moment and are waiting for the perfect alignment of market and regulatory conditions.

4. The XRP Army

The XRP Army is the passionate and highly engaged global community of XRP supporters, developers, investors, and advocates who rally around the XRP Ledger and its mission to revolutionize global finance. Known for their persistence, deep research, and active presence on platforms like X, YouTube, and Telegram, the XRP Army has played a central role in defending the technology, challenging misinformation, and holding institutions accountable—especially during the legal battles between Ripple and the SEC. More than just fans of a cryptocurrency, the XRP Army represents a broader movement for decentralization, financial fairness, and the long-overdue transformation of the global payment system.

5. Phoenix Rising from the Ashes

One of the most enduring and symbolic pieces of XRP lore is the idea of XRP as the phoenix rising from the ashes—a metaphor for its destined role in a collapsing financial system. Amid economic chaos, XRP will rise from the ashes and replace the outdated financial infrastructure with something faster, fairer, and decentralized. The “phoenix” represents XRP’s resilience, its rebirth after setbacks, and its potential to emerge as the foundation of a new global monetary system.

6. Laugh Now

On May 23, 2024, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse shared a post on X about a Banksy-inspired artwork he had been holding onto for some time. The piece is an adaptation of Banksy’s iconic “Laugh Now But One Day We’ll Be In Charge,” featuring a stencil-style chimpanzee wearing a sandwich board that reads, “Laugh now, but one day XRP will power the World!
